Betty White kills.

I love how effortlessly Betty White gets laughs while the rest of the cast has to work their butts off to be noticed.

Make a joyful noise.

Sometimes there really are no words.

This might be the best thing I've ever seen on YouTube.

What's a cuntflap?

This is a british game show in which contestants try to make words out of the consonants and vowels on the board, though I'm not quite sure of the specific rules. Here we see British humor at its finest and most subtle. I love how nobody says anything except a wry chortle from the lovely analog of Vanna White.

Uh-oh.

Back in the day, I used to have an agreement with my friend Mark. We would be sure to remove the ... um ... more salacious sex-oriented accoutrements from each other's apartment in the case of our untimely demise. This would be so that the authorities and/or the family would not see the questionable items. Mark did die a few years after I left Columbus, and luckily he had another friend pick up the task since I was out of town and couldn't do it for him.

Now I have no one to take care of this... at least I haven't asked anyone yet. Perhaps, given the above video from St. Paul, MN, I should re-institute the de-porning agreement.

Bunk Bed Brawl.

I don't have a brother, but if I did I would imagine that my life would have been much like this.

Spot on.

This is exactly the reaction that any gay man would have. Exactly.

One of the best movie quotes in western cinema.

"As my dear, departed friend Lotus Weinstock used to say, 'I used to want to change the world. Now I just want to leave the room with a little dignity.'" (Justin Bond, Shortbus, 2007.)

Truer words were never spoken.

Diva Thursdays: Astrud Gilberto

This is my first non-classical diva, so I admit that I'm using this term very loosely this week. Check out this seriously awesome clip of Astrud Gilberto singing "The Girl From Ipanema", with Stan Getz. It's from a 1964 movie called "Get Yourself A College Girl", which was inexplicably ignored by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences when it came time to present the 1964 Academy Awards. Here are the things I love about this clip:

1. The obvious lip synching to her own recording.

2. The fashions... especially those of the audience of women "of a certain age".

3. The fact that she was reading a menu and immediately broke out into song. Very Rodgers and Hammerstein.

4. The "singer face" that Ms. Gilberto gave throughout the clip. Completely blank, focusing on the music. Very consistent with singers whose careers are primarily recording-focused.

5. The marimba player. Very Buddy Holly. Makes you want to do unspeakable things to him so that you can watch him cry.

This song, by the way, is perfect for those times when you can't get a song out of your head. No matter what the song is, sing "The Girl From Ipanema" and it'll be gone. Try it.

The real housewives of Bensonhurst.

Joe.My.God recommended this as one of his favorite commercials. I heartily agree. The Streisand nails, the ironed hair, the fresh makeup, the botox-induced forehead, the almond-shaped eyes pulled back to almost Wildenstein-esque proportions, and my God... the lips... It's clearly time to cast The Real Housewives of Bensonhurst.

Love her. Totally love her.
